Neighborhood and Community
We welcome your comments on any and all aspects of the Clear Creek Corridor Master Plan. If what you have to share concerns issues of neighborhood and community, please leave your comment below. I would like to ensure the historic neighborhood south of Eleventh Street maintains its historic charm. A lot of familys with small children live in this neighborhood and access the Clear Creek frequently. I would like to see multiple entrance and exit points incorperated into the plan and traffic speed control measures install along Eleventh street at these crossing points. These inclusion must also be incorperated into CSM Master Plan.
I hope the Master Plan includes the long term development of the Golden Community Garden. The first year of the garden was a major accomplishment, thanks to the donation of the land and water by the city of Golden, the hard working and inspirational steering committee, and countless hours volunteered by the gardeners.
The Community Garden has great potential for community building and education about the importance of nutritious, organic, locally produced food. It is a great asset to Golden, and fits in with the stated goals of the Clear Creek Master Plan.
I would also like to voice my support for the Community Garden. It’s a wonderful opportunity for people like myself who can’t garden at home. I love getting to know the Golden community this way. Not only is it a supportive community, it’s educational as well. Please include the garden in your planning.
I think it is very important to protect and improve the Golden Community Garden. I’d also like to see local schools involved in teaching kids how to grow food.
The garden is a great resource for the community. I’d like to see the city invest in improving the garden.
Well, I have been trying to rid our town of goose droppings for 7 years, without success. I would like to see the pond at Lion’s Park filled in, and a water feature/splash pad placed there. The grassy areas would be ‘clean’ for toddlers, and the splash pad would provide a cooling water area, rather than risk the hazards of the ‘dip in the creek’.
I know….the kayakers like to practice in the pond………but how healthy can that be with all the excrement in that place???????????? I would not want to ’spin’ there!
Also,,,,,,,,,,,I am passionate about having our RV park remain! There is no opportunity to ‘look in’ at the residents of the RV’s………….the park is well laid out for privacy, and the trail is lovely along there. Folks who RV are always in similar types of parks with folks walking around and through…just expected to be that way!
I would like to see the RV park moved to alternate location leaving that land open for a park or perhaps an outdoor amphitheatre. Though the RV park is well maintained, it seems out of place given the theme of the Clear Creek Path.
In terms of places for building community, the Golden Community Garden offers an opportunity not shared by other park and recreation uses. That is because each gardener has a commitment for the growing season and an interest in the success of their fellow gardeners. The garden will become a place to visit for those interested in gardening generally. Many of the techniques being demonstrated at the garden can be transplanted to home gardens resulting in a more beautiful Golden outside the corridor.
Please include the use of the current location as the Golden Community Garden in the Clear Creek Corridor Master Plan.
I like the community garden but if push came to shove, I’d move the RV park up there (providing access down 10th street which has two access points from Hwy 58) and put a smaller community garden+orchard in the creek area and several “satellite” communty gardens in our parks around town. I’ve always thought the idea of everybody driving to downtown to garden in the name of “sustainability” is a bit silly when there are many parks round town that would be better with a garden than unused grass areas. E.g. the pocket parks’ grass areas are mostly useless (too small for activities)and some like the one on Utah and 17th are NEVER used for anything since they have no features. Southridge park could use some of the field around the soccer field as a garden, too. Perhaps the commmunity garden group will have made enough progress to spin itself aprt out into the rest of the community and move its downtown plot to a better and smaller spot as a headquarters/showcase location to free up that large off-creek location for other uses. The RV park is a revenue generator but not enough of one that it justifies its prime location along the creek corridor. I think moving it close by can keep it cash positive AND free up its current spot for better uses. We should be willing to consider moving the gardens if it makes sense.
When people think of a community garden, I am afraid they have no concept of the vision of the Golden Community Garden, which is truly a park for all to enjoy and learn from.
I believe that the current location of the first Golden Community Garden is ideal because it is in a central location accessible and visible to all of the corridor users. This is essential to our purpose of promoting organic, sustainable gardening practices to the public, as well as for the community gardeners.
In addition to community garden plots, our vision is to include demonstration gardens for permaculture, xeriscape landscaping, and organic food production. In addition, we are already growing organic food for Golden’s food banks. Thus the benefit of the garden is much larger than to the immediate gardeners.
We are talking with other organizations (Vital Yoga, Foothills Art Center, Miner’s Alley Theater, etc.) to provide yoga, arts camps, artist in residency, and community theater at the Golden Community Garden.
We are in our infancy, but have plans for a variety of educational programming open to the public and designed for all ages. We plan to work with the local schools, two of which are within blocks away from our site (Mitchell Elementary and Montessori School of Golden).
Our Community Garden plan also includes a fruit orchard and a labyrinth, which is a walking meditation path, with evidence-based health benefits.
As the membership volunteer, I know that the majority of our gardeners live within walking distance of the garden – it truly is a neighborhood garden. For example, I live about 7 blocks away and often ride my bike or walk to the garden. Also, the Community Garden has Golden’s first community bike (free cycle) available for anyone to use to ride around town from the garden.
In addition, the garden steering committee is already involved in creating a system of satellite gardens in other neighborhoods throughout Golden. Our steering Committee has reached out to requests from North Golden citizens and Jeffco Social Services to help create additional community gardens.
The first Golden Community Garden is the central hub for a future sustainable system of community gardens throughout our wonderful town!
As a resident of the 8th and 9th Street Historic District, I have several concerns with the proposal the Clear Creek Corridor Plan. I also have several solutions, and would love for the time to present these to the concerned parties for the City.
My wife and I moved back to the historic area three years ago, and did so because we enjoyed what most people who live in Golden do: small town atmosphere and close knit neighborhoods. We want to keep it that way and feel that if the proposed plan is adopted by the City, many of the virtues that define Golden will disappear.
I do not feel that arranging a corridor in one small, tight area, is the way to handle “conflict” as the CCCMP would lead us to believe. Conflict will escalate, if this proposal is adopted. Safety is another goal of the CCCMP, but if the proposal is adopted as is, and 10th Street is used for both north and south side angle parking, the amount of equipment and people moving from cars to the creek to kayak/play/tube/recreate will create conflict three-fold.
That is one example of many of the ways this plan could use assistance from a 9th Street residents view point. As I said earlier, lets get together and discuss the appropriate changes that need to be incorporated into this proposal.
As a residents of the 8th and 9th Street Historic District, we have several concerns with the Clear Creek Corridor Plan proposal. We are very unhappy with the plan to direct traffic into the new parking area from 9th street. This is a quiet residential area with many children, why would anyone want to turn 9th into another busy street like 10th. If anything have parking access from 10th and the parking area where 10th street is now with park area on either side. A fountain and wading pool along with a skate board park on the west side would be a great replacement for the problem pound. The plan as is would ruin our great 8th & 9th Street niehborhood. Which in my opinion the jewel in Golden’s Crown.
